The 3.6-metre mandala below, called 'Arista SunStar' and commissioned by entrepreneur Camilla Al fayed, has a subtle Egyptian theme. The blooming Blue Lotus detail (from Hathor Temple, Dendera) is held within a broad sun collar of painted-jewelled faience beads and set in gold and bronze around the burning sun disc. ▼

About This Painting: A homage to Aphrodite. A mandala of two reflected pentagrams one male one female. The Sacred Union (Tantra). The internal geometry reflecting the gestalt of Venus tracing a five-petaled flower created by the dance of Venus and Earth as they tango around the sun. The Rose of Venus with forget-me-knot flower motif, oyster-shell, and rainbow halo. The Pearl in the centre we share.

This large, dramatic & explosive design was originally conceived in the days after a large peacock butterfly flew through the studio window of an old cottage in the spring of the year 2000AD. The circumstances surrounding this gentle visitation were nothing less than miraculous. The butterfly appears from within a dusty sunbeam flying in a  spiral to land in the centre of a 5ft blank canvas and then opened and closed its wings 3 times before flying back up the sunbeam and on its way. This is a classical tale of artists block and the butterfly ended over a year of creative stagnation. This beautiful painting knotted in gold and set against ultramarine blue and purple that raises the ornament and illuminates the detail in this stunning do-decagon mandala wheel.
